What was The Star of Bethlehem?
No one really knows what inspired the Magi or Wise Men to make their way to Bethlehem. Theories range from comets to super nova’s and conjunctions of the planets.
It is believed the Magi were from Persia, (Iran, Saudi, Yemen etc.). As far as I can tell the bible does not say there were only 3. Maybe it was because of 3 gifts they brought to him? Magi (‘Magupati’ in Greek), was a title given to priests in ancient Persian religions. Today we would call them Astronomers/astrologers. Astronomy and Astrology were one and the same back in the day and it was considered a science. Magi would have tracked the stars to provide interpretations and provide insight of upcoming events. This science was taken very seriously! These dudes would have been wealthy and considered VIP’s at home and on travel!
The Book of Matthew
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.’
When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. ‘In Bethlehem in Judea,’ they replied, ‘for this is what the prophet has written: “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'” Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, ‘Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.’
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The Magi saw an unusual star in the east, and their interpretation was…..The birth of a King in Israel. What in the heck did they see? Whatever it was, it went ahead of them and stopped where Mary and Baby Jesus were. It was not only seen just in the east, but also at first light of dawn. This was Big and Bright!
What they saw must have been so remarkable! The astrological interpretation heralded and signified a New King! The Magi hit the road to follow this star. Time was the issue, they came from Persia and traveled to Israel to meet with King Herod. Supposedly King Herod died in or around 4 BC so it had to happen before he kicked the bucket!
The Orchestration in of it All!
Comets moving across the sky have represented big shifts/events for all recorded time. It also signified the death of a King or unfavorable event. Comets can appear to ‘stand’, but they don’t hang out to long. Over time artists became influenced astrological events would streak across the sky. You can witness this in wonderful paintings of the birth of Christ.
When a star explodes at the end of its life it is called a Super Nova. Around the time King H died, there was a bright super nova, but the locale is off and like comets, super Novas meant the end of something. There was a Super Nova in the 1600’s that likely fueled this story.
OH HOLY NIGHT HERE IS MORE!
Dancing with the Stars!
When Conjunctions and Retrogrades happen to this degree it can be a fun bouncy polka, fox trot or in this case ….The Ultimate Horah. In retrograde the earth goes around the sun faster than the other planets; planets cam appear to stop in their tracks, or even do a dosey doe in some cases.
Jupiter the Big Player!
Moon & Jupiter in Aries
April 6 BC Big Stuff! An eclipse involving the earth, moon, sun and Jupiter. Dawn light would have made it hard to see, but the Magi studied it and would have seen it coming.
Saturn & Jupiter in Pisces
The constellation of Pisces (the Fish) (Christ consciousness) and Jupiter the planet of Royalty were all holding hands with Saturn the planet of life lessons and old ways. Triple down on that! However, this would have been about 7 BC. However, it is thought that this dance would have taken the floor over Bethlehem in the month of December. So who knows?
Venus, Jupiter & Star Regulus
Apparently, a lawyer from Texas came up with one! Larson says, “I think King Herod died around 1 BC”! What does that mean? We can consider more options! Not sure about his theory, but I love that he is from Texas and would love to have him explain it to me in person! I don’t know too much about Regulus.
My 2 Cents
I believe that God the Father set in motion many stars to create the perfect energy for Christ his son to enter. He created an incredible Save the Date! What an amazing celestial show! The Magi and everyone on the planet saw must have been amazed at the anomalies in the sky! WAKE UP! A KING IS BORN!
This energy seems super like what is going on right now. Do you feel it?
The bible speaks of ‘signs from God in the sky’. It says do not to worship stars or let them totally control your life. After all God the Divine gave us freewill! Worship God he made the stars, don’t worship the stars!
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Blessings and Stars!
